Full Job Description
Midwest Modelers is an established Construction Layout Company and has an immediate opening for a full-time experienced civil engineering design/CAD technician able to design/prepare 3D GPS Models for land development projects such as subdivisions, roads, and both large and small commercial/residential sites. Must have experience with plan and profile for site/subdivision layout, water/sewer, storm drainage, grading, and erosion control. Must have AutoCAD (Carlson software preferred) experience along with previous work experience in a surveying/civil engineering CAD position.
*Attention to detail and the ability to follow directions, yet think on your own is a must.

Job Type: Full-time
Primary Duties:
- Interpret field crew notes; analyze and process survey data (conventional and GPS)
- Develop detailed surface models with Carlson Civil/Trimble Business Center
- Perform coordinate geometry calculations.
- Compute data points for construction layout
- Compute and edit Models to define surfaces (existing and proposed)
- Calculate volumetric quantities.
- Import and export of data in various formats (.txt, .csv, .dgn, .shp, xml, .gml, .kml, ln3, .svl, .svd, .ttm, .dxf, etc.)
- Prepare surfaces, calculate quantities, areas in accordance with the engineering department.
- Prepare project set up and compile and compute data to prepare for field activities.
- Daily interaction with field personnel to acquire notes and data and monitor progress.
- Generate reports (volume surface calculations, etc.)
- Perform quantity take-offs and assist with proposal preparation and competitive bids.
- Confer by telephone, writing, or in person with surveyors, crew chiefs, clients, colleagues, public officials, contractors, and others from time to time as required.
- Experience with relevant software platforms (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Adobe, etc.)
- Review and edit data in the form of coordinates, angles & distances, offsets, and field codes.
